Модальный глагол mау (might) употребляется:
1)для выражения разрешения, просьбы (в утвердительной и вопросительной форме) и мягкого запрещения (в отрицательной форме):

Эквивалент модального глагола may (be allowed to) используется, когда
необходимо подчекнуть, что разрешение/запрещение исходит от кого-либо:

2) для выражения возможности, предположения (с оттенком сомнения, неуверенности). Глагол mаy (might) в данном случае соответствует русским модальным словам «возможно», «может быть». Разница между may и might в таком значении не временная, а смысловая: оба глагола употребляются для обозначения как настоящего, так и прошедшего действия, при этом глагол might обозначает большую степень сомнения. Одновременность/предшествование действия передается при помощи инфинитива (The Indefinite Infinitive - The Perfect Infinitive):
