The pipeline network currently covers 35% of the territory of our country, the
population being more than 60 %. The contact of the population with the pipeline
system will be continuously expanded, and, consequently, increases the danger of
anthropogenic
impact
on
people
and
natural
areas.
The
development
of
new
oil
fields
requires
the
construction
of
pipeline
systems for oil transportation. These tendencies are objectively accompanied by an
increase in the volume of capital investments in production, as well as an increase in
the possible damage caused by oil pipeline accidents. The main components of these
damages are damage to the health and life of industrial personnel and the public,
property
losses,
as
well
as
pollution
of
the
natural
environment.
The
damage
from possible
accidents
is
not limited to only these
factors.
Economic indicators are also important. Failures of major facilities that lead to shut
downs in oil transportation or a partial decrease in oil extraction negatively affect the
performance
of
the
assigned
function
-
supply
of
oil to
consumers.
The economic efficiency of pipeline transport of oil is achieved through the
increased use of equipment and facilities and reduction in capital and operating costs
[3]. Failures of equipment and structures reduce the extent of their use and increase
the
cost of
repairs.
The
result
is
economic
losses.
Analysis of operational reliability indicators of existing pipelines shows that
there is the need for further wider implementation of measures to improve pipeline
reliability. These measures should be based on the progressive and well-examined
methods and techniques. In addition, new methods that would take into account the
latest achievements
of
science
and
technology
should
be
also
developed.
