Заключение
Переписка царя Сумуэля с военачальниками, опубликованная А. Джорджем, происходила, по-видимому, незадолго до драматических событий, завершивших правление этого царя. Границы Ларсы в момент написания писем, вероятно, уже отодвинулись далеко на юг по сравнению с теми, которые были при его предшественнике Абисаре. Самые северные территории вместе со всеми грандиозными сооружениями, возведенными за 10 лет до этого, были, очевидно, уже потеряны для Ларсы. Письма, которые Сумуэль посылал своим военачальникам, хранились, скорее всего, вместе с другими официальными документами в составе административного архива одного из провинциальных городов недалеко от Кисурры, возможно, это был город Рахабум. Адресаты писем, военачальники и чиновники, жили либо в самом городе, либо в приграничных военных укреплениях где-то неподалеку. В одном из писем Сумуэль предупреждает военачальников о грозящей им опасности и необходимости укрепления позиций:
Только что Эрра-имитти направился к Кисурре. Укрепляйте прилегающие к вам территории [букв. «стороны ваши»] (№ 18, 8-13).
Возможно, обострение военной ситуации на территориях поблизости от Кисурры, которое нашло свое отражение в письмах Сумуэля, как раз и было связано с намерением Эрра-имитти захватить этот город. Захват Кисурры войсками Исина, о чем упоминается в датировках самого Эрра-имитти, позволил, по-видимому, окончательно отрезать Ларсу от Ниппура и от прямого контроля над водными ресурсами, что и привело к той страшной катастрофе в конце правления Сумуэля, которая описана в надписях его преемников.
Публикация писем царя Ларсы Сумуэля проливает новый свет на историю последних лет его правления и позволяет в определенной степени реконструировать методы управления государственными проектами и ведения военных действий, которые использовал Сумуэль и которые, судя по письмам из архива Мари, аморейские правители южномесопотамских городов, в том числе Хаммурапи, практиковали и сто лет позднее.
