The given article deals with the colouring and how it acts in the novel. It describes only one of the possible interpretations of Iris Murdoch's novel «The Time of The Angels», to be more certain, how the colour influences heroes' life. The analysis of the colour spectrum, its colouring and blackness is done in the given article. As the article shows, the heroes' life is reflected through the «gloominess» (furnishings, clothes, rooms, and weather) of what's happening in the analyzed novel. The main hero is also analyzed through the «darkness», black color, he is depicted as evil, his soul is darkened. He absorbs everyone around him. The study shows, how the light and the good can defeat an overwhelming evil. The article also tells about the critique of morality, which is one of the main topics of the novel and in this connection the moral degradation of personality. It shows how the refusing of generally accepted moral and religious rules, disbelief in God, brings not only to moral but physical destruction not only of the main hero but his family as well, and as a result - to the whole society, because family is the most important component in any society.
