He took a farther road, in fact the farthest of all.

We don’t need any further explanations. –

This book is more interesting than.

Они оканчиваются на -or, а не на -еr и после них употребляется to вместо than.

These samples are superior (inferior)

to those.

The Dnieper is much longer than

the Thames.

This book is far better than that one.

Не is the best of my friends.

This is the most interesting book (that)

I have ever read.

The deposits of oil in Russia are Залежи нефти в России гораздо богаче by far the richest in the world.

(менее удобный), least comfortable (наименее удобный).

Не is as young as my brother.

My dictionary is as good as yours.

Не is not so young as my brothег.

My dictionary is not so good as yours.

Your room is twice as large as mine.

This box is three times as heavy as

that.

This grade is twice as expensive.

Не is twice as old.

I paid for the book half as much as

88

for the dictionary.

Не is half my age.

My room is half the size of yours.

2. Выражения типа as short (simple, interesting и т. д.):

The letter must be as short as possible.

применяется сравнительная конструкция the… the:

The older I am, the happier I get.

The sooner you go away, the better.

I’m getting fatter and fatter.

It’s getting more and more

interesting.
